Yes, we are still doing Jeff Gere’s end of cycling season Challenge Ride. The challenge of this ride is to complete the entire 36 miles - and if you are riding a bike without a motor, to climb each hill without having to get off and walk it. The circuit is 36 miles with an elevation gain of 1875 ft. It starts in Walkersville, progresses gradually north toward Rocky Ridge, and takes in some of Jeff’s favorite routes, such as Harp Rd where he has spotted deer, foxes, squirrels, wild turkeys during his rides but where he also admits he has thrown his chain on more than one occasion. Other favorite roads are Angleberger Rd, Wilhide Rd (along which flows a beautiful stream and where you will probably encounter more horse droppings than automobiles), LeGore Bridge Rd, and Links Rd, which come near the end of the ride and will have your quads screaming. We will have a rest stop at Utica Park, approximately 15 miles into the ride, and also along the route as needed.
Helmets and water bottles are required. Bring a substantial snack - riding 36 miles requires fuel.
Meet at the parking lot between Walkersville Fire Co. and Rescue Co (same start spot as TDF) at 79 W Frederick St, Walkersville.
Please RSVP on the FSC Event Calendar. Use the WhatsApp group “FSC Cycling” for same day msgs.
